Sofia Costa was born in Vila Nova de Gaia and began her musical studies at the age of three. She trained at the Escola de Música de Perosinho and at the Porto Conservatory of Music, where she was awarded the Madalena Sá e Costa / Porto City Council Prize.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Percussion from the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo (ESMAE) in Porto.
She is currently pursuing Master’s studies at ESMAE and at the Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas (ESART).
As a percussionist, she has collaborated with the Gulbenkian Orchestra, Drumming GP, the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, and the European Union Youth Orchestra.
She has worked with conductors such as Susanna Mälkki, Vasily Petrenko, and Ivan Fischer, among others.
She has also shared the stage and given masterclasses with musicians including Nuno Aroso, Nick Woud, Vanessa Porter, Christian Dierstein, Gimpas Duo, Viviane Vassileva, and Jean-François Lezé.
Sofia Costa has performed in concerts at venues such as Casa da Música, Teatro Nacional São João, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, UNESCO Paris, Konzerthaus Berlin, Het Concertgebouw, and Wolkenturm Grafenegg.
