Sofia Silva Sousa, violist, was born in Braga, where she studied at the Calouste Gulbenkian Conservatory. She graduated in 2018 in London from the Royal Academy of Music, under the tutelage of James Sleigh and Martin Outram. In 2020, she completed her master’s degree at the Royal College of Music, London, studying in the class of Nathan Braude.
She was Resident Artist at the Queen Elizabeth Musical Chapel in Waterloo, Belgium, from 2018 to 2023, under the guidance of Professor Miguel da Silva.
Sofia Silva Sousa made her solo debut with the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra in 2016 after winning the Vasco Barbosa Strings Competition.
In 2018, she was recognized in Portugal as Young Musician of the Year and, in the same year, performed as soloist with the Gulbenkian Orchestra. She also won the Maestro Silva Pereira Prize following her victory in the 32nd edition of the Portuguese Broadcasting Young Musicians Award.
In chamber music, she is a founding member of the Quarteto Tejo, which won 1st Prize in Chamber Music at the 2019 Young Musicians Award.
Since 2020, Sofia Silva Sousa has been a member of the prestigious London Symphony Orchestra.
