Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro is widely regarded as one of the most distinguished Portuguese artists of recent decades, having achieved remarkable international recognition as a piano soloist, chamber musician, and artistic director.
A native of Porto, he graduated and earned his doctorate in 2000 from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, where he studied for five years under the guidance of the renowned pedagogue Lyudmila Roschina. Since then, he has pursued an intense and multifaceted career, performing in some of the most prestigious concert seasons and festivals across Europe, the Americas, Asia and Oceania.

Called the “poet of the piano”, he is acclaimed for his mastery of a vast repertoire, effortlessly adapting to stylistic periods such as Baroque, Romantic and contemporary music. He is the dedicatee of works by several Portuguese and international composers. His solo discography - comprising five CDs - reflects his artistic versatility and includes works ranging from Bach to Ravel, Beethoven to Mussorgsky, and Debussy to Prokofiev.

As a soloist, he has performed with the leading Portuguese orchestras as well as with major ensembles from various European and American countries. Passionate about chamber music, he has collaborated with many of today’s most prominent performers.

A decisive milestone in his artistic journey was the founding, in 2006, of the DSCH – Shostakovich Ensemble, of which he is the artistic director. The ensemble’s discography includes the world premiere recording of the complete chamber music for piano by Shostakovich, as well as Beethoven’s Trios Op. 11 and 38 - both albums receiving high praise from the specialist press. It was also through the DSCH Ensemble that he launched, in Lisbon in 2015, the Verão Clássico Festival, now considered one of the world’s most relevant academies and platforms for musical excellence.

His creativity as an artistic director and curator has led him to spearhead numerous projects over the past two decades. He is currently the artistic director of Bragança ClassicFest and curator of the Musical-Mente concert series at the Teatro Nacional São João in Porto.

A dedicated advocate for the new generation of musicians, he taught piano for a decade at Portuguese universities, regularly gives masterclasses, and in 2022 founded the Juventus Ensemble, a platform that brings together established artists and emerging young talents. In 2014, he was awarded the official title of “Steinway Artist” by the prestigious piano brand Steinway & Sons, being the only Portuguese pianist to hold this distinction.
Since 2021, Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro is the artistic director of the Festival de Música dos Capuchos.
