One of Portugal\u2019s most internationally acclaimed musicians, J\u00falio Resende has released nine albums over a career that began in jazz and has traversed fado and the spoken word, in a continuous search for the perfect musical space that never truly exists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After recording his first three projects as a leader in jazz trio and quartet formats, he began exploring improvisation across other musical genres, most notably fado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Drawing on the songs of Am\u00e1lia Rodrigues, J\u00falio Resende introduced a new challenge: bringing fado to the piano. Am\u00e1lia por J\u00falio Resende, released in 2013 by Valentim de Carvalho, was unanimously praised by the entire Portuguese music press. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following his first solo project blending fado and jazz, Resende released his fifth album in 2015, Fado & Further, featuring the Catalan singer S\u00edlvia P\u00e9rez Cruz, one of Spain\u2019s leading voices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His sixth album, Poesia Hom\u00f3nima (2016), merges spoken word and poetry in collaboration with psychiatrist and sexologist J\u00falio Machado Vaz, setting poems by Eug\u00e9nio de Andrade and Gon\u00e7alo M. Tavares to Resende\u2019s improvisational piano accompaniment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Inspired by the English poetry of Fernando Pessoa, he formed a pop-rock band with indie and electronic influences called Alexander Search, named after one of Pessoa\u2019s most important heteronyms. The album, released in 2017, debuted at number three on the national sales chart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cinderella Cyborg, released in 2018, is a musical adventure combining acoustic piano, drums, and double bass with electronic sounds, pads, and synths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2019, Resende performed alongside pianist Maria Jo\u00e3o Pires in a unique concert, creating a dialogue of improvisation, fantasy, and inspiration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2020, he released J\u00falio Resende \u2013 Fado Jazz Ensemble, a unique project in the world of jazz and world music, combining a jazz trio\u2014piano, double bass, and drums\u2014with the Portuguese guitar, creating a dialogue between jazz and fado. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2022, J\u00falio Resende released his album \u201cFado Jazz\u201d worldwide through the label ACT Music, receiving excellent acclaim from international critics. The album \u201cFilhos da Revolu\u00e7\u00e3o\u201d was released in 2023 by Sony Music and ACT Music.
