Portuguese pianist Nuno Vieira de Almeida studied in Lisbon with Jos\u00e9 Manuel Beir\u00e3o and, as a scholarship recipient from the Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Gulbenkian, continued his studies in Vienna with Leonid Brumberg and in London with Geoffrey Parsons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He regularly performs as a Lied pianist alongside leading Portuguese and international singers, including Gundula Janowitz, Peter Weber, Peter Jelosits, Ulla Gustafson, and Gabriele Fontana, both in Portugal and abroad. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Portugal, he has given numerous first performances of works by composers such as Sch\u00f6nberg, Webern, Wolf, von Einem, Schreker, Korngold, Weill, Bernstein, and Britten, as well as world premieres of works by Portuguese composers including Jo\u00e3o Madureira, Carlos Caires, Constan\u00e7a Capdeville, and Paulo Brand\u00e3o. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He is the author of several interdisciplinary musical projects, combining music with painting, theatre, and poetry, and co-created, with Yvette Centeno, the radio program \u201cO Texto e a M\u00fasica.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nuno Vieira de Almeida also collaborates regularly in theatre and film productions, both as a performer and composer of soundtracks, and has been instrumental in the revival of works for declaimed voice and piano, giving many Portuguese premieres and commissioning new works from contemporary Portuguese composers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some of his works and performances include the complete recording of works for voice and piano by Lu\u00eds de Freitas Branco and Joly Braga Santos, as well as a double CD of Fernando Lopes-Gra\u00e7a\u2019s works for voice and piano with Elsa Saque; a recording of previously unrecorded works by Lopes-Gra\u00e7a with Ana Maria Pinto and Jo\u00e3o Rodrigues, and another recording of works by Vianna da Motta; the world premiere recording of Lopes-Gra\u00e7a\u2019s Hungarian Songs and Russian Songs for Naxos, with Susana Gaspar, C\u00e1tia Moreso, and Fernando Guimar\u00e3es; he also recorded Schubert\u2019s Winterreise with Peter Weber; and the world premiere of Cantares Galegos by Joly Braga Santos \u2013 version for voice and piano \u2013 with Elsa Saque in 2005.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In September 2012, he inaugurated the F\u00f3rum Lu\u00edsa Todi in Set\u00fabal with soprano Elisabete Matos, performing a recital of voice and piano. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He served as repetiteur for the film The Giacomo Variations by Michael St\u00fcrminger, featuring John Malkovich, Jonas Kaufmann, Miah Persson, and Kate Lindsay. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
