Capuchos Festival 2025<\/strong>
Between Worlds<\/em><\/p>

Welcome to the Capuchos Festival 2025!<\/p>

Now in its fifth consecutive edition since its revival in 2021, the Capuchos Festival presents the theme \u201cBetween Worlds\u201d, offering an artistic reflection on interculturality, diversity, fascination, and dialogue between multiple dimensions \u2014 civilizational, temporal, and spiritual \u2014 that intertwine and reveal themselves through Music, the universal language present in all societies.<\/p>

From May 30 to June 27, Almada once again becomes the stage for this major cultural event, bringing together renowned national and international artists. Concerts will be held at the Capuchos Convent, the Festival\u2019s spiritual core, as well as in other venues across the city, including the Joaquim Benite Municipal Theatre, the Fernando Lopes-Gra\u00e7a Auditorium, and, for the first time, Parque da Paz, which will host an open-air symphonic concert.<\/p>

Among the highlights of this edition is the Portuguese debut of the Swedish chamber orchestra Musica Vitae, which will open the Festival with two concerts led by the brilliant Austrian violinist Benjamin Schmid. The opening program features works by Mozart and Tchaikovsky, bridging musical traditions and geographies. In the second concert, Schmid presents his \"Jazz Violin Concertos\" project, exploring the fusion between classical composition and jazz improvisation - an absolute first on Portuguese soil.<\/p>

The \u201cbetween worlds\u201d spirit continues with The Naghash Ensemble of Armenia, presenting a program that blends medieval Armenian sacred music with contemporary influences, jazz, and post-minimalism. Another standout moment will be \u201cThe History of Tango\u201d concert, led by bandoneonist Marcelo Nisinman, a direct disciple of Astor Piazzolla, in a tribute to the roots and evolution of Argentine tango.<\/p>

No dom\u00ednio da m\u00fasica antiga, o Festival prop\u00f5e dois concertos de forte dimens\u00e3o hist\u00f3rica e po\u00e9tica. \u201cA M\u00fasica da L\u00edrica Camoniana\u201d, pelo Concerto Atl\u00e2ntico dirigido por Pedro Caldeira Cabral, assinala os 500 anos do nascimento de Lu\u00eds de Cam\u00f5es, recuperando pr\u00e1ticas musicais renascentistas. J\u00e1 o Ensemble Barroco Tra Noi apresenta \u201cTelemann
goes East\u201d, explorando o di\u00e1logo entre o barroco alem\u00e3o e as tradi\u00e7\u00f5es populares da Europa de Leste.<\/p>

Na \u00e1rea da m\u00fasica contempor\u00e2nea e do pensamento musical, o centen\u00e1rio de Pierre Boulez ser\u00e1 assinalado com um recital do clarinetista J\u00e9r\u00f4me Comte, solista do Ensemble Intercontemporain de Paris, fundado pelo pr\u00f3prio Boulez em 1976. O programa \u201cBoulez 100\u201d inclui obras de Boulez, Berio, Donatoni, Grisey e Stravinsky, revelando diversas
linguagens da modernidade musical europeia. Por sua vez, o concerto \u201cNoite Transfigurada\u201d homenageia Daniel Barenboim, reunindo solistas da Academia Barenboim-Said e da West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, com obras de Brahms e Sch\u00f6nberg, s\u00edmbolos de um romantismo transfigurado e vision\u00e1rio.<\/p>

A presen\u00e7a nacional faz-se sentir com nomes de refer\u00eancia como: a Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, dirigida por Pedro Neves, que tocar\u00e1 no Parque da Paz a c\u00e9lebre Sinfonia \u201cDo Novo Mundo\u201d, de Dvo\u0159\u00e1k, e obras de Rossini e Brahms; o DSCH \u2013 Schostakovich Ensemble, que interpretar\u00e1 Dvo\u0159\u00e1k, Schubert e uma estreia absoluta do compositor S\u00e9rgio Azevedo; o quinteto 100 Caminhos, protagonista de um original \u201cconcerto-passeio\u201d pelo Convento dos Capuchos. Tamb\u00e9m o Jo\u00e3o Barradas Trio apresentar\u00e1 Aperture, um projecto de jazz contempor\u00e2neo com forte componente autoral.<\/p>

The piano will take center stage with two recitals: Dang Thai Son, the legendary winner of the Chopin Competition in Warsaw, will present a program focused on Chopin and Debussy; and I myself will pay tribute to the poetic and transcendental genius of Franz Liszt, in a journey through dreams, love, and virtuosity.<\/p>

Festival com tr\u00eas sess\u00f5es dedicadas ao centen\u00e1rio de Jos\u00e9 Cardoso Pires, ao centen\u00e1rio da publica\u00e7\u00e3o de \u201cO Processo\u201d, de Franz Kafka, e a uma reflex\u00e3o sobre o pr\u00f3prio tema do Festival \u2013 Entre Mundos.
Additional parallel activities enrich the Festival: the Capuchos Preludes - pre-concert talks moderated by Jo\u00e3o Almeida; the Capuchos Walk in the Protected Landscape of the Costa da Caparica Fossil Cliff; the Guided Visit to the Capuchos Convent; and the Capuchos Masterclasses, with distinguished professors from the Universities of Salzburg, Oslo, and Lucerne.<\/p>

Com especial alegria, apresentamos tamb\u00e9m, pela primeira vez, a iniciativa \u00d3pera para Crian\u00e7as, com sess\u00f5es da \u00f3pera \u201cBastien et Bastienne\u201d, de Mozart, numa produ\u00e7\u00e3o dirigida por Ant\u00f3nio Wagner Diniz, destinada ao p\u00fablico do Pr\u00e9-Escolar e do 1.\u00ba Ciclo.<\/p>
